How to Install a Wall-Mounted Clothing Rack
Before mounting an industrial clothing rack to a wall you’ll need to answer a few questions.
- What type of wall are you mounting to?
- What type of anchors do you need?
- Are you mounting to both the wall AND the floor?
Having these questions answered before you begin installing and even ordering your clothing rack is key to a successful and smooth installation.
How to Install a Clothing Rack into a Concrete Wall
When installing your clothing rack into a concrete wall, the key components you need are flanges and anchors.
Flanges are what you need to mount your clothing rack to the concrete wall. Anchors are going to be your bolts that secure the flange to the concrete wall. Anchors secure the flange, which secures the clothing rack. The anchors you’ll need for this are going to be standard concrete anchors you can find at big box stores or online.
Now, let’s get to installing. You’ll first want to assemble your industrial clothing rack uprights and at least one of your middle rails. Why? This is so you can have an accurate measurement of where you’re going to be mounting your anchors and flanges. You’ll then want to mark the holes in the flanges into the wall where you plan to drill.
Once you’ve marked where your flanges will go, it’s time to drill. Using your marks as a guide, begin drilling with a hammer drill. A standard drill will not be effective in drilling into concrete, so we recommend a hammer drill or something equivalent.
Once your anchor holes are drilled, with just your flanges, hammer your anchors into the pre-drilled holes in the flange into your anchor holes in the wall.

Next, after your flanges are properly mounted to the wall, you can then assemble the rest of your clothing rack by attaching the structure to the flanges and securing them with the set screw system or however your industrial clothing rack connects.

How to Mount a Clothing Rack into Drywall without Studs?
Now, what about in the case where you can’t find studs, the studs aren’t wide enough, or the studs are in inconvenient spots where you plan to mount your clothing rack?
This can be easily reminded with drywall anchors. Drywall anchors are fastening devices used to securely attach screws to drywall without the need for a stud. They expand or grip the drywall when the screw is inserted, providing extra support for hanging items like clothing racks, shelves, or TV mounts. These can be purchased online or at any hardware store.
For this, you’ll follow the same steps as above where you mark your anchor holes, but for this you will want to first install your drywall anchors before you install the screws into the wall flanges.
How to Install a Clothing Rack into a Wooden Wall
When installing your clothing rack into a wooden wall, the key components you need are flanges and anchors.
Flanges are what you need to mount your clothing rack to the wall. Anchors are going to be your screws that secure the flange to the wall. Anchors secure the flange, which secures the clothing rack.
Now, let’s get to installing. You’ll first want to assemble your industrial clothing rack uprights and at least one of your middle rails. Why? How to Mount a Clothing Rack to the Floor
If you’re mounting your clothing rack to just the floor or both the wall and the floor. Here are a few key steps when doing so.
When mounting to JUST the floor, you want to ensure that you mark your anchors with the flange before you start drilling. For this, you’ll need to measure precisely where your flanges will be by how long your pipe is. OR you can pre-assemble the legs of your clothing rack to mark the flange holes.
Now, most floor surfaces are going to be concrete or cement, and for this, we recommend using concrete anchors to secure your base flanges.
Mounting to the wall and floor is largely going to follow the guidelines of the above steps for mounting into a wall. The key point here is to mark and mount to the wall first before mounting to the floor.
Additionally, your wall flange and base flange can be the same type of flange. However, with larger industrial clothing racks you may want to use a bigger flange like our railing flange that is a little taller to help give more stability to the clothing rack.

Well, we don’t want to leave you out to dry. A free-standing clothing rack allows you to move your clothing rack around as needed and doesn’t require any drilling into walls or floors. However, you can be limited on size and durability with a free-standing clothing rack.
The key thing with a free-standing clothing rack is its height and length. A free-standing clothing rack shouldn’t exceed 8 feet tall without being secured to the floor or to the wall. Having a mounted system will also increase your storage capabilities.
