Case Study: How Modular Industrial Clothing Racks Transformed Ralph Lauren’s Backroom Storage

Ralph Lauren Clothing Racks

Retail backrooms are often overlooked, yet they play a critical role in daily operations. Inventory management, seasonal changeovers, and product accessibility all depend on how efficiently a store can organize its storage. Many retailers struggle with flimsy racks that bend under heavy loads or layouts that can’t adapt to changing storage needs.

That was the exact challenge facing Ralph Lauren when they looked for a better backroom solution. They needed industrial-strength clothing racks that could handle heavy use, yet still offer the flexibility to be rearranged and expanded as their inventory demands shifted.

Designing Backroom Storage

When moving to this new location, Ralph Lauren had to determine the best way to outfit their backroom storage space with something new, yet familiar.

They wanted to install new industrial-strength and size clothing racks, similar to what they currently have, but not welded.

Their former systems at their other locations are regular welded clothing racks that, yes, get the job done, but could be improved by taking their storage capabilities to the next level.

Modular Clothing Racks with Pipe and Fittings

Instead of choosing standard welded racks, Ralph Lauren turned to a modular clothing rack system built with Kee Klamp fittings. Unlike welded racks, Kee Klamp uses a series of set screws to interlock it’s system. This allows retailers to design and create custom layouts without the need for specialized tools or complicated welding.

Ralph Lauren was connected with Nate, Project Specialist for Simplified Building, where they began discussing the needs of the clothing rack to support more clothing, and be easily installed by their installation team.

When it comes to designing and laying out the floor plan for a clothing rack system, our team specializes in creating a layout that fills all the possible floor and wall space with clothing racks. Their goal is to optimize the amount of clothing that can be stored, while making it all easily accessible for employees to grab and store clothing.

For this project, Ralph Lauren already had plans and designs ready to go for our team which made the next steps easier for designing the layout.

Nate took Ralph Lauren’s requirements and transformed them into a 3-D sketch to showcase the possibilities. The modular system made it easy to design racks that were:

  • Stronger than traditional backroom racks.
  • Flexible enough to be reconfigured for different storage needs.
  • Easy to install without requiring professional contractors.

This approach checked every box on Ralph Lauren’s list of storage goals.

Modular Industrial Clothing Racks for Backroom Storage

This project highlights why modular racks are becoming the go-to solution for backroom organization in retail and warehouse environments:

  • Industrial Strength: Built with galvanized steel and Kee Klamp fittings, these racks withstand heavy daily use.
  • Custom Layouts: Every backroom is different. Our modular racks can be tailored to fit tight corners, maximize vertical space, or expand into multi-level systems.
  • Scalability: As storage needs grow, additional sections can be added without starting over.
  • Simple Installation: No welding or specialized skills needed. Any team can build racks quickly and confidently.

Easily Installed Clothing Storage Racks

One of the standout benefits of modular clothing racks is their ease of installation. Kee Klamp-based racks can be assembled quickly with only basic tools like a hex key and a drill. We recommend a drill with a hex key attachment for quicker assembly. And a standard drill is only needed for a wall or floor-mounted clothing rack system.

When it came time to install, Ralph Lauren’s backroom racks went up in no time. The installation team had assembled everything efficiently, and both the staff and management were thrilled with the result. The racks provided the durability they needed while giving them the confidence to adjust layouts as their storage demands evolved.

Upgrade Backroom Storage with Modular Industrial Clothing Racks

For Ralph Lauren, the investment in modular clothing racks paid off immediately. They gained a reliable, flexible, and easy-to-install storage solution that could grow with their business. Both the installation team and the client praised the durability and design of the system.

By choosing modular over traditional welded racks, Ralph Lauren secured a backroom storage system that not only solved their immediate challenges but also provided long-term adaptability.
