DIY Ski and Snowboard Racks

floating wall mounted snowboard rack

Winter is here and that means you fit into one of these two categories: You’re a person who is super excited to finally get out there and start skiing/snowboarding, or you are counting the days until spring.

If you fit within the first category, you must be excited to break out your skis or snowboard and start “shredding that gnar” (I apologize for my attempt at being “hip”). Hopefully you’ve had your gear properly stored during the offseason too so that your equipment is in the best condition.

Whether you used the patented “leaning up against the wall” in your basement/garage, or if you have been using your own DIY ski and snowboard rack for years. There are multiple ways you can upgrade your ski and snowboard storage with our pipe and fittings system.

Already have an idea of how you want to improve your ski or snowboard storage? Feel free to contact our designers about your plans, we would love to help! In the meantime, check out these different ways you can DIY new ski and snowboard racks and storage.

Snowboard and Ski Rack Building Material

People choose to DIY ski and snowboard racks using different types of materials, namely wood or plastic. While those are all well and good, what if I told you there was a secret material that was better than both of those? Well, I guess it’s not that secret since it’s been around for quite a few years, it’s galvanized steel!

“But isn’t that more expensive?!” they said. Factoring in the longevity and simplicity of a pipe and fitting rack or shelf, you’re actually going to be saving money in the long run, no cap! (I apologize again for that attempt at being “hip”). Using metal for storage is beneficial because it can support greater weights than wood or plastic and can withstand all weather types.

DIY Ski and Snowboard Wall Racks

One simple and popular way people choose to store their skis or snowboard is with wall mounted racks. These provide a lot of ease in storage and don’t take up too much space. The important thing to note is that your skis and snowboards are relatively heavy. So having the proper material as mentioned above that can support the weight of the gear and be securely wall mounted is crucial.

Check out this simple and modern take on a wall mounted rack. This design is an industrial “floating” wall rack that can be built with just a few Kee Klamp fittings. Here is a list of the couple fittings you would need for one of these floating racks.

Freestanding Ski and Snowboard Racks

Maybe you’ve decided you don’t want a wall mounted rack, or maybe you decided that you’re a ski lodge and need more storage options that people visiting your mountain can use. Using our Kee Klamps as shown in the diagrams above and below you can assemble a sturdy rack that will be perfect for outdoor storage because the galvanized steel will prevent rusting.

Pipe and fittings are perfect to provide stability for the number of skis and snowboards they need to support, and as mentioned before, the galvanized steel is durable enough to withstand the extreme weather they may face.

Garage and Basement Storage

Now for the rooms where you are most likely to be storing your gear, or maybe you don’t, I’m not trying to assume your storing habits. In your garage or basement it is most likely where you may have the most room to install storage shelves or workbenches.

All these methods can be used interchangeably, if you want a wall mounted rack in your garage, or a workbench shelf in your bedroom, you have the freedom to do whatever you like!

There are many ways to improve your ski and snowboard storage, and no one way is “better” than others (unless you’re just putting your gear in the corner of a room in which case these ways are better, but hey this is just one individual’s opinion).
