Has this ever happened to you?

You’re coming to the close of a big project and then you’re told that critical material is not going to be ready in time. Your project is held up and you can’t finish in time.

This exact issue almost happened to one of our customers. He needed an OSHA mounted guardrail stat.

In the middle of his crisis, he reached out to our team of experts and was able to salvage his project...and find a new solution for future projects.

The Problem with Welded Guardrail

Curb Mounted Guardrail with Garage

Our customer ordered a welded guardrail to be installed while he poured concrete.

His project was to create a maintenance garage near a waterway for a local plant. The perimeter retaining wall required a guardrail to be OSHA compliant.

The issue that our customer ran into was that the guardrail was not ready when the concrete was ready to be poured. This meant he couldn’t pour until he had the guardrail to complete the project properly. Everything else in the project hinged on the concrete being poured.

He had two choices. Wait for the guardrail and lose money every day that he couldn’t continue the job.

Or...he could find a new solution.

The Benefits of Pipe and Fittings OSHA Guardrail

Our customer started to google new solutions, and then found us. There were several concerns that our customer needed us to overcome to be the right solution.

  • Could we design a custom railing?
  • Could we get the material to him in time?
  • Could his team install the guardrail?

Mounted Guardrail without Welding

Our customer needed us to design a system that could match his very specific OSHA guardrail needs.

There were multiple curved sections in the guardrail that he needed to make sure our guardrail could accommodate. He could have bent the pipe, sure. But that would take precious time that our customer just did not have. So, we used the adjustable side outlet tee that allowed him to make minute turns to create a rounded look.

He needed 3-rails to meet his client’s design requirements. This was easy. We just multiplied what he needed for a single rail three times. The benefit of our system was that he could customize the height of the rails during installation.

Last, he needed to incorporate a guardrail for an adjacent ramp. It was simple for this project because the grade of his ramp was so low. There was enough room in our fittings to allow him to make the slight transition without needing different fittings. However, if he had a greater slope, then there are a range of fittings that adjust depending on the angle needed. Our three-socket angle tee is a great example, allowing for slopes from 0 to 11 degrees.

Mounted Guardrail that’s Ready When You Need It

Again, our customer needed an OSHA guardrail system immediately. This can’t happen with a welded rail system. Design, fabrication, and other projects that need this same lengthy treatment can cause significant delays.

A component-based mounted guardrail, like Kee Klamp, is easy to put together. All components are stored in a warehouse. Once an order is placed, all we need to do is pull them from the shelf and ship them out.

The longest portion of this project is ensuring that the design is correct, which is easy to do.  Designs don’t have to be exact with the ability to make adjustments in the field.

Once the design was approved, our customer was able to begin pouring the concrete. The guardrail would use a standard railing flange to bolt onto the concrete, so the guardrail did not need to be on site first. As you can imagine, this helped the project get back on schedule.

Mounted Guardrail Anyone Can Install

The fastest arriving guardrail doesn't matter, though, if you need specialized labor to install it. Lead times and delays from other projects can prevent your installers from showing up on time. After all, project delays happen to the best of us.

Our mounted guardrail system allowed our customer to use his team when the time came to install the railing. After all, the only tools he needed were an allen key and the right drill for the concrete anchors. A way to cut the pipe was handy if the concrete pour didn’t perfectly align with the original design. This could be as simple as a hacksaw.

A Positive End to a Project

Not only was our customer able to complete the project in a timely manner, but they also found a solution for future guardrail projects. Kee Klamp mounted guardrail can be used in a variety of ways in most environments.

Not only that, but his client was happy with the result.

At the end of the day, what matters most is that a compliant and safe system was installed that protects workers.
