This idiom can be used when trying to find the right platform mounted guardrail. But there is so much more to buying a guardrail than just finding one that “fits”. 

I can buy shoes from Walmart that fit. However, I know I’ll be there in a few months to buy another pair. 

Who you buy from also matters. A large-scale distributor most likely won’t understand the intricacies of OSHA guardrail compliance.

Our customer was building platforms. Some were to house equipment and others were to gain access to equipment. 

In either case, he needed to incorporate guardrail onto the platform. After all, OSHA says that any working surface that is 4 feet or more above another level needs to have fall protection. 

He could have had a steel fabricator whip up a guardrail for him, but that would come with a few drawbacks. 

A welded guardrail takes time. Between the on-site measurements, the shop drawings being produced, and the actual fabrication time, this is not a short process. 

The welding process is dangerous and requires specialized labor to complete. Meaning, not any contractor or handyman can pick up a torch and throw together a guardrail. 

Once welded, you better hope it fits. Any on-site changes can mean additional time and/or cost to have a welder come to site. 

This is not what our customer was looking for.

Instead of just accepting his design skills with a new product, our customer sent his fittings list to one of our project experts. From there, we were able to help him spot a few design changes to make sure the platform mounted guardrail he installed was OSHA compliant and safe. 

Sometimes it’s hard to imagine what you’re ordering when it’s broken down into individual parts. We translated what our customer needed into a helpful 3D design, so he knew exactly what he was buying and that it was what his client needed.

All that speed means nothing if you can’t get the guardrail on site in time.

With tight timelines, you don’t want to wait for someone else to show up and install a critical component of your project. Our guardrail doesn’t require any specialized labor, like welding.  

All our customer needed was an allen key, drill, and a pipe cutter to get the job done. 

Sometimes the build site can surprise you, and something in the project must change. It could be a last-minute change order from the client, or the ground isn’t as solid as you thought it would be for the post installation. 

Because our guardrail is component based, our customer was able to make quick infield adjustments. No waiting for a welder.

Our customer not only solved a problem for his existing project, but he also found a solution he could use across multiple projects. 

Once he became more familiar with the component based guardrail system, he could customize a guardrail quickly for any platform project. He’d get assistance double checking his work without needing to pay an engineer. And he’d have it when he needed it. 

With the future in mind, our guardrail can come in galvanized steel or aluminum. This means that our customer could install a guardrail that would last as long as his platform.
