Product Description

The ADA compliant 555 handrail is a minimalist stair railing kit that features a smooth inline rail that secures directly to your stairs and landing. Stairs and ramps that require ADA compliant handrail but are too narrow to comply using offset rail systems can use the ADA 555 rail and still comply with regulations. User's hands glide smoothly along the entire length of the handrail because it uses the 555 Top Fix Rail Assembly to attach the rail to the upright.  The ADA 555 handrail will last decades longer than a standard off the shelf ADA railing; the entire system is galvanized and designed for durability and flexibility.

This railing has been custom designed for ADA Compliance

Unique Features:

  • Inline Mounting - Handrail is mounted inline with stairs that may be too narrow for traditional offset ADA railing
  • Custom lengths - Configure for any distance between 2-8 linear feet
  • Long-lasting - The entire system is completely galvanized
  • Easy to install - Only requires a few simple tools and can be installed in about 1 hour
  • Everything you need - Includes mounting hardware for concrete and wood surfaces

Perfect For

  • Landlords - who need ADA rail to be easy to install and long lasting to meet building code requirements.
  • Homeowners - who are looking for a robust handrail that meets insurance requirements.
  • Business owners - who are required to provide ADA compliant handrail for steps and ramps around their business.

Select Your Options

  • Base Kit - The base kit includes two uprights and all the necessary brackets to support the grab rail. Included with your purchase are end caps and mounting hardware.
  • Length - Select the number of feet for your hand railing. In most cases, estimating to the nearest foot works great. See instructions below for calculating the grab rail length. Maximum Length: 7' 6" ft. If you need an extended handrail, please contact us directly for a custom railing.
  • Additional Uprights - If you are extending your railing beyond 6 feet between uprights, you will need to add an extra upright.
  • Powder Coating Color Options - This aluminum railing kit comes with a silver finish but can be powder coated for an additional fee.

NOTE: This will add 3-4 weeks to your lead time.

Calculating Rail Length

This simple way to do this is to have someone stand at the bottom of the steps holding the end of the measuring tape. Walk to the top of the stairs while each of you holds the measuring tape 3 feet off the ground. Record the length when you have positioned the ends where you want the railing to begin and end. In most cases, estimating to the nearest foot works great.

Tip: Longer is better. Your handrail can be cut shorter if needed before install.

The mathematical way of calculating would be to measure the rise and run of the steps and then calculate the length of the railing by the following formula:

Railing Length = √ height2 + length2

The square root of the height squared plus the length squared will give you the proper length of your railing.

Frequently Asked Questions

What tools do I need?

You will receive an allen key with your railing kit that can be used to connect the pipe and fittings. We recommend using a hammer or rubber mallet to secure the malleable plug to the ends of the handrail and a standard drill or a hammer drill if you will be attaching your railing to concrete or brick.

How do I calculate my handrail length?

This simple way to do this is to have someone stand at the bottom of the steps holding the end of the measuring tape. Walk to the top of the stairs while each of you hold the measuring tape 3 feet off the ground. Record the length when you have positioned the ends where you want the railing to begin and end. In most cases, estimating to the nearest foot works great. Tip: Longer is better. Your handrail can be cut shorter if needed before install. The mathematical way of calculating would be to measure the rise and run of the steps and then calculate the length of the railing by the following formula: Railing Length = √ height2 + length2. The square root of the height squared plus the length squared will give you the proper length of your railing.

How do I assemble the railing?

This couldn't be easier. You'll receive a basic set of instructions with the railing kit or you can download them now by clicking on the download link at the bottom of this page.

Can I paint the railing?

You sure can! All of our kits can be painted. Many of our customers have used spray paint to add a splash of color to their railing. Depending on the frequency of use and weather, the paint may need to be touched up on occasion.

Can I cut the tubing myself on an abrasive-wheel chop saw?

Yes, you can. Simply make sure you have the correct blade for cutting galvanized metal.

Can these be mounted to wooden stairways?

Yes, they can. Our railing kits come with mounting hardware for both wood and concrete included. You should have no problem mounting this railing to wood.

Do these rails or any of the parts rust?

Our railings are comprised of galvanized cast-iron fittings and triple-galvanized steel rails. They are designed to withstand the elements and, in most cases, will not show rust for decades to come.

How many posts do I need?

We recommend no more than a 7 foot spacing between posts. All kits up to 7 feet will come with 2 posts. Kits longer than 7 feet will come with 3 posts.
