Video - Kee Klamp and Kee Lite - Features & Use

Below is a full transcript of this video.

Overview

Kee Klamp and Kee Lite slip on pipe fittings can be used to build heavy duty structures without the need for welding, threading or other specialized equipment. Traditionally Kee Klamp fittings have been used to build industrial structures such as handrails, small building frames and solar panel supports. Kee Klamp and Kee Lite are also used by DIY enthusiast for more creative applications such as desks, clothing racks, shelving supports and architectural accents.

Often compared to Legos and Tinker Toys, Kee Klamp fittings allow for endless creativity in building structures that can bear weight and endure harsh outdoor conditions

Possibilities are endless. There are nearly a 100 different fittings which can be combined in countless ways to build just about any custom structure.

Unlike wood working and welding no specialized skills or tools are required.

Advantages of Kee Klamp

Simple to Use

The primary advantage of the Kee Klamp is it’s simplicity. Through use of a simple allen wrench a connection equivalent to a weld can be created. The “secret” of the Kee Klamp system is it’s set screw. When tightened down the sharp edge of the set screw locks the fitting into the pipe, creating a solid, structural connection.

No costly welding or awkward threading is required. Kee Klamp fittings easily slip onto the pipe and can be attached at any point.

Easy Assembly and Disassembly

If you need to build a portable structure Kee Klamp is great. Simply loosen the set screw, and the structure can be broken down and stored away.

Resuability

Unlike a permanent connection systems, Kee Klamp fittings are completely reusable. Use them to reassemble the same project, or use them to assemble something completely different.

These tables used at O’Reilly publishing’s Maker Faire were later reused to create in-store displays for their Maker Store products.

Strength

Don’t let it’s simplicity fool you into thinking the connection is weak. A Kee Klamp connection is rated to sustain 2000 lbs. of pull out force. This strength qualifies it for use in most industrial applications.

Commonly used in playground and staging applications, with the proper design Kee Klamp can be used in almost any weight-bearing or stress laden application.

Steel & Aluminum

Fittings are available in steel & aluminum.

Steel fittings known as Kee Klamp - are heavier and bit stronger than their aluminum counterparts. Steel fittings are also available in a wider range of sizes and types.

Aluminum fittings known as Kee Lite -- are lighter and cheaper to ship. They have a nicer look than the steel fittings and can be used in water rich environments without the risk of corrosion.

Diverse Selection

In many cases there are several different fittings that perform the same function just a little differently. You can create a tee with a slip on tee or join three pipes with a three socket tee. There are bases for flat surfaces, walls, ramps. There are hinged fittings to join several pipes together at any angles. There are smooth surface fittings which connect inline with pipe to create a smooth surface. There are adjustable and clamp on fittings.

Durability & Corrosion Resistance

Because clamping does not damage the galvanization and annodization, the metal is completely protected and will remain rust-free much longer than a welded surface. Suitable for use in water rich environments such as water treatment facilities and docks, our aluminum fittings have even been used to construct railings underwater.

When installed properly Kee Klamp railings will last for decades. Like this installation in Niagra Falls that was installed in1960s. Even with the constant moisture of the falls, the railing looks great year after year.

Selecting and Ordering Fittings

Pipe and Fitting Size

Kee Klamp and Kee Lite fittings are available for most standard pipe sizes. Made to fit what is commonly called schedule 40 or gas pipe, fittings can also fit on fence post if you pay close attention to the important dimensions.

The most important thing to measure on a piece of pipe is the outer diameter. This is the distance across the middle of the pipe [illustrate on screen]. This diameter can be compared with our pipe chart to ensure that you receive the correct size fittings.

Pipe size can be confusing. For instance, what is called 1-1/2” schedule 40 pipe actually has an outer diameter of 1.9 inches. We’ve tried to simplify pipe and fittings size through the use of a chart. Match the size of the pipe you want to use the sizes on the chart.

If the OD of your pipe is 1.66 then your pipe is what we call size 7. Nominal bore sizes are also indicated on the chart. [highlight] You want to use size 7 fittings. The size is indicated as the number after the dash in the model number.

If you’re still confused about pipe and fittings sizes, please give us a call. We can help you clarify the sizes before you place your order.

Powder Coating

To give the fittings and pipe a unique color, they can be powder coated. Powder coating is a baked on finish that will not easily scratch or flake. Powder coating adds aesthetic beauty and another layer of durability to your structure. Powder coating is available for an additional fee in any RAL color .
