Build a Steel Hockey Goal: Complete DIY Plans

Build a Steel Hockey Goal: Complete DIY Plans

When the weather cools down and the leaves change on the trees, for me it's hockey season!

If you are like me, you have spent $50-$100 on building PVC hockey goals in the past. We all know that it only takes one good slap shot off the post for that thing to shatter. You then find yourself purchasing that same net year after year.

Residing in Upstate New York, the weather gets cold and PVC hockey goals do not fare well in these conditions. The fittings come loose, the net rips, the goal moves every time you bump it or hit a hard shot. However, to purchase a quality hockey goal will cost you in the neighborhood of $350-$400!

I had enough with the cheap goals, and I decided I wanted to build my own. Not some miniature plastic net that I need to replace every year, but one that is regulation size and will last a lifetime. I also didn't want to spend a fortune on an official NHL approved goal. All I needed was a handful of Kee Klamp fittings and some schedule 40 pipe.

Assembly was a piece of cake! This net is solid and heavy duty. No more breaking or moving the goal on hard shots. Whether you use a street hockey or ice hockey puck, this frame will stand strong. Accidently nudge it? No worries there, this is galvanized steel!

Another great thing, it’s completely portable! Let’s say I wanted to bring this net to a lake or pond to play ice hockey. All I need is an Allen wrench to loosen a couple set screws, lay it flat in the back of my car, and be on my way!
