The Wayne Gretzky's bar in downtown Toronto decided to build out the ceiling with an industrial pipe grid made out of Kee Klamp pipe fittings. The grid connects to the wall and the ceiling to provide stability. The entire grid work fills in the overhead space and brings a great industrial aesthetic to the environment.
This grid work is purely aesthetic, but grid work like this built from Kee Klamp fittings can also be structural. Another frequent use for this type of grid work is as a lighting grid. The health benefits of not sitting on your butt all day are becoming more and more popular. People are popping up in cubical based environments like a giant game of whack-a-mole! Bottom line, it's great that people are recognizing the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle brought on by the technological service economy and making the appropriate changes to fight back (you've got to love puns!).
There are several standing desk projects on this site (see below) and I'm sure there will be more to come. This standing desk was built by Jeff in Georgia. He had this to stay about the desk.
I've been wanting a standing desk for a while due to issue with my back. After shopping around and seeing the crazy prices I decided to build my own. After reviewing the many ideas on Simplified Building I realized that I wanted a larger desk for my home office. I started searching the internet and saw one built with a counter top from IKEA. It was nice but not big enough for me. After some research on the IKEA site I found the right counter top for me!
Jeff used a fairly straight forward design for the desk, including an extra bar at the bottom of the desk to put his feet on while sitting or standing. He was able to order pipe so that the desk would fit his working height perfectly. In the end, his own words "This thing is large and built like a tank.".
Kee Klamp is a wonderful solution for this type of project. It allows you to DIY your own desk and save a bundle of cash against other standing desks on the market. The beautiful thing is that it's basically as easy as putting together a desk from the store, and you don't have to sacrifice quality. The parts are industrial, so your desk will definitely outlive you (even if you do manage to squeeze in a couple extra years by standing instead of sitting).

Wrought iron railing can be expensive and time consuming to have installed. After a recent customer determined the cost of wrought iron railing for their home, they turned to the Internet to search for alternative DIY railing solutions. They were pleasantly surprised to find Simplified Building and our Simple Rail handrail kits. Simple Rail handrail kits enable you to install a very sturdy metal handrail that can be easily painted to match your home.

I needed to install a railing on our front steps as part of our sellers agreement. I got quotes for a wrought iron railing to be $1000 and so I thought I would install it myself. I ordered the railing, had my masonry buddy drill holes into the flagstone, painted the parts/railing and installed. Looks real nice!
Jonathan's experience reflects that of many other's who have come to Simplified Building for a railing kit. Allison from Golden Sycamore used Kee Klamp pipe fittings to put together a rustic looking curtain rod for her bedroom. The pipe and fittings were distressed using a unique heating method. The heating of the pipe and fittings discolors and ages the metal, giving the entire curtain rod some very unique character. She covers the methodology for aging galvanized metal in another post and also urges extreme caution when utilizing this method.
The design of Allison's curtain rod was very straight forward, and very similar to these curtain rods that I have in my office. She used two 70-6 fittings to support the rod on either end, and then two 84-6 metal plugs to plug up either end of the pipe. We supplied her with the length of pipe she needed for the rod, and viola! Her results were fabulous!

CrossFit Vulcan is a new CrossFit Gym Located in the heart of old Saint Augustine Florida, When we looked for a pull up rack solution we found quite a few systems but they were very expensive and not very flexible. We did some research and found Simplified Building Concepts and decided to go with the Kee Klamp system. CrossFit is growing in popularity by leaps and bounds and gyms are popping up all over the country with a need for multi-person pull-up stations that are adjustable and flexible. Kee Klamp helps to accomplish the construction of these pull-up stations by providing a system that is both industrial strength and adjustable. This is a rare combination and those who have used our fittings to build gym structures have been completely satisfied.
Buster's system uses an arrangement very similar to our clothing rack system. He arranged the bars in a staggered layout to allow for people of various heights to use the pull-up rack at the same time. The multi-person nature of the system allows for people in the CrossFit community to work out together and challenge one another to obtain their goals.
